Earthing switches and safety philosophy
Description

From the pantograph down to the propulsion converter, there are several safety devices that must be installed on the roof and/or inside the vehicle to isolate and earth the high-voltage equipment before the maintenance staff can carry out its work in the safest conditions. This safety philosophy is based on a simple step-by-step principle that enables one safety device to be operated only when the previous device in the traction chain has been locked in the earthing position. This principle is implemented through a cascade of security keys and associated locks as shown in the diagram below.
